‘With crates of records from floor to ceiling, his trusty MPC 2000xl and a selection of ol'school samplers, Vinyl Touch is able to pull new life out of an old dusty piece of wax that might have hit the curb. I had a chance to sit down with him at his studio and talk about how he began his journey, into sound. Vinyl Touch is a Hip Hop Producer from Ottawa Ontario Canada. As a young fan of such acts as Gangstarr, Public Enemy, EPMD, Redman, Lords Of The Underground, KMD, Artifacts, RUN-DMC, Brand Nubian, DJ Kool Hurc (to name a few), influenced him to start DJing. In '94 when he was 14, he bought his first set of turntables."(Laughs) Damn man, I copped some Linertech 1800's or some shit, belt drive nightmares. Couldn't scratch without the needle tryin' to jump into my damn arm! (Laughs). I picked up some belt drive decks then finally the Tech 1200's. With the 1200's I was able to really get in the groove." It took many years he tells me, but after much practice and patience, watching him behind the wheelz of steel today, I can tell you first hand, he has perfected the fine art of scratching. "I would always have jamz at my place through-out high school. I'd spin the whole night, scratchin' till my fingers bled. Everyone either dancin' or freestylin' over breaks... I was like damn! They feelin' this! After that, Djin' was no longer a hobby, it became a way to express myself." For a brief moment he wielded the pad and pen. "We were always writing to other dudes beats, so I started dabbling in Production in '99." During this period, Hip Hop was taking a new path with modern sounds and more money driven lyrics. Although this ‘New Age Hip Hop’ was taking over, he still managed to keep his ear to the streets with making sample driven, BoomBap Beats. In 2008 Vinyl Touch linked with Reka The Saint who introduced him to Sam Thoro of Thorotracks Productions out of Queens NY. With guidence from Sam (Thoro), he learned the ins and outs of the game. "Sam (Thoro) is one of the hottest HipHop producers in the game. I've been listening to Thorotracks for years, so when I reached out and he hit me back, I knew I had something good going on." With guidance from Reka, Sam and fellow MCs and Producers, Vinyl was able to get his beats to many well know HipHop artists. Working with Narez, Meyhem Lauren, Tek of Smif-n-Wessun, Kaz Money and well-known East Coast Canadian MCs Flash G, The Truth & Nova Scotia native Expedyte. "I'm working with a lot off ill cats right now, lots more comin' out this year and only getting bigger in 2010 for the headz, so y'all keep your ears peeled."'
